They are the only swords with 5 combo. However, it seems like the Pistol Swords are intended to be the best weapon. You get them the same way you get the best sword in ACB, and they have unique animations like the best daggers in ACB and ACR. The best guns are the golden flintlock pistols (all naval contracts).

Perhaps it isn't the knife that kills, but the lack of will after being stabbed that does Boards. Assassin's Creed II.
To regain the hidden blades, play Sequence 2-2 until you get the hidden blades, then crash the game (either Alt-F4 or Ctrl-Alt-Del). When you restart the game you will have the hidden blades again.
